Tree Stands

There are many different types of tree stands used for hunting. Deciding on which one to use is usually personal preference. Some of them you may feel comfortable with or feel that they are more useful for that type of hunting. Some tree stands are often more dangerous than others. This may be something you want to take into consideration before buying or using them. Tree stands are great for a hunter because it gives them a big advantage for hunting animals such as whitetail. It gives you good vantage points and takes you out of ground height sight.

Ladder Stands

These stands can potentially be the safest tree hunting stand. They are easy to get up to and some even have rails surrounding them. There are various types and none are exactly the same, but generally they are easy to get into. I have used ones that fit two people. These ones are great for two people that want to hunt together. The only main downside about ladder stands is that it may require some time putting the up and may need a couple people. It really depends on what type you get whether it be for a single person or a two person stand. These stands are quite comfortable and are potentially the safest . Its just once you put one up make sure that it is a good decision.

Fixed Stands

These stands may feel a bit more open than "some ladder stands". Instead of having a ladder you use something similar to one, but it is alternating bars you step on. Be careful when ascending on these as it may feel a bit strange. These are less conventional than a ladder, but still get the job done. These stands are fixed by ropes, straps, chains or cords that are tied around the tree. Make sure you get a proper tree and decide that that spot is where you really want it. It can be hassle if you put one up and decide that you do not want it there.

Climbing stands

Climbing stands are gaining popularity and can be very useful. You no longer have to carry all the other extra climbing gear to use them. They can be taken with you when you go hunting and you choose a tree and climb with it. You sit on the seat and stand up and raise your feet to bring the lower platform up. You keep doing this until you reach the desired height. The main downside to these is that it may take some time to get up and if deer are coming you may get unlucky. They are, however, nice because you can take them with you and choose a tree instead of having to take down other stands. Not having to carry those extra climbing things is nice too. These are for someone who is not sure where to set up a stand and can take them with them on there hunting outing. A lot of people may already be using other stands, but keep these as a backup just in case they find a possible hot spot and can climb a tree nearby.

Tower Stands

These are "technically" not a tree stand cause they are free standing platforms, but may be better if there are not many trees in the area. It also may be better cause they are rugged for tough terrain. These can be great for the corners of fields to over watch as well. These stands can be metal or made out of some kind of wooden material. Some people make there tower stands out of wood. They are supported by either three or four legs. These are a good option for someone in a more "open area" without many trees.

They are probably by far the most comfortable out of all stands unless you have a really nice permanent stand. Its just the thing is they are not really a tree stand as they are not attached to a tree for support. As a stand they are usually comfortable depending on what type is used and what material is made.

Permanent Tree Stands

These stands can be great depending on how well the person makes it.They are stands that are permanently attached to a tree and can not be taken down . These can be unsafe if the proper maintenance is not done on them so be careful. If you or someone else is building one make sure it is safe and proper to use. Permanent stands can be very successful and useful. They can be larger or smaller stands.

The main downsides to these is that weather can damage them over time since there always out. Since there permanent they can not be taken in so this is why safety is an issue. They need to be built to stand the test of time or you may have 'accidents if not built correctly or maintenance is nor performed on them. Other than that they can be a valuable asset if everything is done correctly.
