This is part 2 of the Deer Hunting Series. In the introduction, we talked about how hunting required patience. Certain factors such as hunger can affect patience even though a hunter may be patient naturally. Taking food with you when hunting can be a good suggestion if your going to be out for a while.Sometimes you need to travel far, so taking snacks and nutritional drinks such as "ensure" can be beneficial. Losing patience can affect your performance when hunting whitetail.

Patience is very important, but so is persistence. So how does persistence breakdown? Well, just because a hunter has the patience to sit in a tree stand for hours on end does not mean he has persistence. Some hunters go out one day for a long time, but have no luck. They often wonder why they did not see any deer in the woods or fields and such. Well, you have to understand, hunting can be unpredictable. Even if a hunter knows deer may use a specific path often, it does not necessarily mean they will cross that path every day. Many variables can affect whether or not they do. Whitetail deer often follow certain deer trails, but other hunters during deer season can avert there paths. In other words, gun shots can scare them off there normal paths. A lot of things are out of the hunters control. No matter how good a hunter may be, other factors can still influence a negative outcome.

So how does persistence come into play in all this? Don't give up after one day. Hunters will often question why they did not see any deer even though they were very patient. They give up after a few long days. This is where the persistence fails. Persistence means staying on task, and not giving up. Just because you had no luck one day does not mean you should give up. Some days are just bad luck when hunting whitetail. Combine patience and persistence together to increase your chances of getting a deer. No matter how patient you are one day does not mean your 100% guaranteed to get a deer. Your going to need to pursue other days as well. Be patient those days as well. Stay persistent! Since a hunter can not determine exactly what happens on a given day, he needs to wait and go out hunting as many days as possible.

Staying Patient By Staying Warm

As mentioned in part 1 of Deer Hunting tips, other factors can contribute to the downfall of a hunters patient. No matter how patient you are, other variables such as cold whether will try to put you down. The cold weather can affect you in many ways. First off, its harder to shoot a gun when your shivering. Shivering is the bodies natural way of warming up, but shaking can have a negative impact on shooting performance. Mainly, being cold can make a hunter impatient. This is another way where outside forces try and avert ones patience. Sure, you may feel very patient in a tree stand or where ever your hunting for a while, but when elements such as cold weather come into play, things can change.

Cold weather can wither your patience away

What needs to be done to prevent the almighty virtue of patience? Staying warm is very important. A hunter needs to attain his patience as long as possible. His ability to wait for that big buck is of utmost importance. Dress warm before going out on your hunting adventure. Remember, dress in layers. Don't just wear one big jacket. Wear multiple long sleeve shirts along with a jacket. Wear as many as you feel comfortable with. Don't overdue it though, as this can affect your ability to move. Wear comfortable clothing. The longer you can stay warm outdoors the greater chance you can still be determined and patient. This will also help you mentally. Your persistence will be higher if you stayed warm in one outing.

Wear good boots and socks

In my experience, sometimes your feet can be the only cold part while your upper body and legs feel warm. Don't neglect a good pair of good boots and socks. It is recommended that you wear boot socks. These are thick and should keep you warmer. You could also wear multiple socks if you wanted to. This may feel a bit strange, however, if its comfortable, then its a good idea so your feet stay warm.

When your feet are warm, its easier to walk and climb tree stands. Theres less risk of falling off a tree stand when climbing it when your feet are warm. When your feet get cold, you may feel a bit unstable and numb. Numbness is not a good thing when hunting.

Patience and persistence will help you in your hunting endeavors. If a hunter can maintain being warm and not hungry, then he will be able to focus more. This will maintain these two virtues. Of course, some people may not be as patient as others, but doing these things will still help regardless.
